Sponsored posts on CBD and cannabinoid sites
Ad platforms make CBD hard to promote, so brands rely on content placements, and prices rise with demand. This guide covers what publishers accept, what UK rules let a CBD article say, and how to avoid paying for links that disappear.
Updated 11 October 2026 · Reviewed against FSA novel-food guidance, the MHRA statement on CBD, CAP advice on CBD products and Home Office cannabinoid guidance
The short answer
Yes, many cannabis and wellness publishers accept CBD sponsored posts, but in the UK the article can't make medical claims such as helping anxiety, pain or sleep, and CBD foods should be on the FSA's public list. Most publishers refuse delta-8 THC and HHC, which are controlled or being controlled. Expect $30–$300 per post on niche sites and up to $800 where cannabis carries a premium; 3rd Unicorn's CBD titles start at $85.
What CBD sponsored posts cost
| Tier | Typical price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Gig marketplaces | $5–$295 | Fiverr CBD listings, October 2026 |
| Small niche publishers | $30–$100 a month (rented links) | Published publisher rate cards |
| Vendor-managed placements | $200–$300 | Link-building agency price lists |
| Cannabis premium on general sites | about $800 against $200 standard | Published publisher rate cards |
| 3rd Unicorn CBD titles | $85 mention · $110 edited · $125 full article | Our rate card, permanent placements |
Watch for links sold by the month: some cannabis publishers rent placements and remove them when payment stops. Our placements are permanent and guaranteed live for 12 months.
Which products publishers accept
| Product | UK position | Our titles |
|---|---|---|
| CBD oils, edibles, drinks | Novel foods: only tolerated if on the FSA public list; none fully authorised yet | Accepted, without medical claims |
| CBD cosmetics and topicals | Cosmetics rules; no medicinal claims | Accepted |
| Delta-8 THC | Controlled as a cannabinol derivative (Class B) | Declined for the UK |
| HHC and semi-synthetics | Supply caught by the 2016 psychoactive substances law; Class B control in progress | Declined |
| Cannabis seeds | Seeds can be sold, but germinating them is cultivation | Collector and news angles only, no grow guides for UK readers |
What a CBD article can and can't say in the UK
- No medical claims. Saying CBD treats, prevents or helps a condition makes it a medicinal product needing an MHRA licence. The ASA has upheld complaints about anxiety, insomnia and pain claims.
- No unauthorised health claims. Health claims must be on the GB nutrition and health claims register, and none exist for CBD.
- Intake guidance. The FSA advises healthy adults to take no more than 10 mg of CBD a day.
- Labelled as sponsored, and links use rel="sponsored". The ASA has ruled against undisclosed CBD affiliate content.
What works well instead: sourcing and lab testing, how to read a certificate of analysis, product formats explained, and regulatory news, all written for the title's readers.
If you're targeting the US
The FDA doesn't allow CBD in foods or supplements. A federal change redefining hemp, signed in November 2025, takes effect around 12 November 2026 and excludes synthesised cannabinoids such as delta-8 made from CBD, so expect US delta-8 inventory to disappear. We confirm the position for your target states before publishing.

The rules that apply
A summary for buyers, with the primary source for each point. It isn't legal advice; check your own position with your compliance team.
| Rule | What it means for a sponsored post | Source |
|---|---|---|
| CBD foods are novel foods | No CBD food is authorised yet; products on the FSA public list are tolerated while applications proceed. Advice: no more than 10 mg CBD a day. | Food Standards Agency |
| No medicinal claims | A CBD product marketed with a medicinal claim is a medicinal product and needs a licence. | MHRA statement on CBD |
| CBD in advertising | Avoid words like cure, prevent, heal or fight; health claims must be on the GB register. | CAP advice on CBD |
| Controlled cannabinoids | THC and cannabinol derivatives are Class B; the 1 mg exempt-product rule isn't a safe harbour for marketing. | Home Office cannabinoid factsheet |
| Label it as an ad | Marketing must be obviously identifiable. A paid article that reads as editorial without a clear label breaches the Code, and undisclosed paid editorial is a banned practice under the DMCC Act 2024. | CAP Code rule 2.1 (ASA) |
| Paid links and site reputation | Links that are paid for must carry rel="sponsored" (or nofollow). Third-party content placed mainly to exploit a host's ranking signals can be treated as site reputation abuse, whatever the link attribute. | Google Search spam policies |
CBD & cannabinoids sponsored posts: questions and answers
- Do publishers accept CBD sponsored posts?
- Many cannabis, wellness and lifestyle publishers do, though mainstream sites often ban CBD. 3rd Unicorn has CBD titles in the UK, US and global markets.
- How much does a CBD sponsored post cost?
- About $30–$300 on niche sites and up to $800 where general sites charge a cannabis premium. Our CBD titles cost $85–$125.
- Can a CBD article say it helps anxiety, pain or sleep?
- Not in the UK. Medical claims make the product an unlicensed medicine, and the ASA has upheld complaints about exactly these claims.
- Is CBD legal to sell in the UK?
- CBD foods are tolerated if they're on the FSA public list while their novel-food applications proceed. No CBD food is fully authorised yet.
- What is the FSA's daily CBD limit?
- The FSA advises healthy adults to take no more than 10 mg of CBD a day.
- Can I buy sponsored posts for delta-8 or HHC?
- Not for UK readers. Delta-8 THC is a controlled drug, and HHC is caught by the psychoactive substances law with Class B control in progress.
- Can I advertise cannabis seeds?
- Seeds can be sold in the UK, but germinating them is cultivation, so content must not give UK readers growing instructions.
- Will a CBD link stay up?
- Not always: some publishers rent links by the month. Our placements are permanent and guaranteed live for 12 months, or we restore, replace or refund.
